Competition Defined

so the link didn't work on the last post and some people have inquired about what we are doing...here it is:

For this competition each person will be given a monthly recording chart. At the end of each day take a few seconds and fill it out for your day. At the end of the month, put them in an envelope and send them to Julia (or you can scan it and email it to me) I will keep track of everyone’s progress and announce the winners right before the Olson family reunion in July. There will be one grand prize winner and multiple smaller prize winners so don’t get discouraged if you have a bad day, week, month, etc. The whole point of this is for our personal improvement. In reality everyone will be a winner if we make these things a habit in our lives.
I think if we all do these things our lives will be more enriched, meaningful, and joyous. The list of goals may seem like a lot of things to do, but we have been taught that as we stretch ourselves we become stronger. I also have been impressed upon by the spirit that as we each become stronger individually, our family will be strengthened as well. And I NEED MY FAMILY! Thanks to mom and dad, we CAN be together forever. Even though we don’t live under the same roof anymore, we can still be such strength to each other.I am really excited for this improvement competition. We start May 1st …good luck to you all!

Daily Goals

  • Daily exercise
    • One point given for each 20 minutes of exercise with a maximum of 3 points or 60 minutes a day
  • Drink 8 cups of water
  • Limit sweets
    • Keep sweets limited to only 2 times a week—it can be any two days of the week or two sweets total—whatever works for you.
    • If you eat no sweets in a given week you will earn bonus points!
    • If these guidelines are followed you will get 5 points that week
  • Personal scripture study
    • One point earned for each 15 minutes of study with a maximum of 4 points or 60 minutes a day
  • No more than 2 hours of TV a day
  • 7-8 hours of sleep
    • If you are not getting your 7-8 hours because you get up with a fussy child you do not have to report it. That is an acceptable allowance.
    • You will also have to be awake by 9am on the weekends (so don't stay up late on the weekends you teenagers and college students and then think you can sleep until noon or later to get points for 7-8 hours of sleep J)
  • Family scripture study
    • This does not count toward your personal study time.
    • One point awarded for each day you are successful.

Weekly Goals

  • Journal writing
    • One paragraph minimum. One paragraph=3 to 5 sentences. I think we can all handle that.
    • Blog entries meeting the one paragraph minimum will be accepted.
  • Read the Joseph Smith lesson
    • This can count as part of your daily scripture study.
  • Read Sunday School lesson
    • This can count as part of your daily scripture study.
  • Family Home Evening
    • Can be short, but must have lesson.
  • Weekly date with spouse.
    • This doesn't have to be a date out on the town; it can be a date in.
  • Call/email/webcam/write a sibling/child/parent

Monthly Goals

  • Temple attendance
    • To make this fair if one person in each couple goes it counts for both because of new babies and traveling distance to a temple.
  • Monthly home teaching or visiting teaching
    • Points awarded if completed as best able. For example if you did all but one family and you sincerely tried to reach that family you can count it. Not to your supervisor, but in this competition.
